Did you know?
- The total land mass of all six islands is 6,450 square miles.
- Temperatures - Average high temperature in the winter months is 80 degrees and in the summer 87 degrees. Lows in the higher elevations in winter can drop to 15 degrees at night.
- Water Temperatures - Varies between 72 to 76 degree Fahrenheit all year long.
- Rainfall - The wettest months tend to be in the winter and the driest in the summer. Averages vary per island for example Oahu has an annual average rainfall of 24 inches while Hilo on the Big Island receives 141 inches and Ka'anapali on Maui gets only 14 inches of rain per year.
- Highest Points - Big Island is Mauna Kea at 13,796 foot elevation and Mauna Loa at 13,680 foot elevation. Maui is Haleakala at 10,023 foot elevation. Other islands range around 4,000 feet
- Hawaii has the lowest car rental rates in the country
- Some of Hawaii's best attractions are free - beaches, waterfalls, rainbows, hiking, rainforest, snorkeling, and whale-watching.
- Hawaii has very little crime and is rated one of the safest locations in the United States.
- Hawaii has been the number one destination for millions of travelers over the last fifty years.
- Coconuts from a double-coconut palm can weigh as much as 50 pounds!
 Special Considerations
- Visitors to Hawaii will be given a form from the Hawaii State Department of Agriculture and the Visitors and Convention Bureau asking for information about their trip.
- 120 day quarantine is required for most pets and a number of plants, so please leave those at home to make your trip more pleasant.
- Upon leaving Hawaii those bound for the mainland will be asked to pass their baggage through agricultural inspection prior to check-in. This is a short process.
- Hawaii is on standard time and does NOT observe Daylight Savings Time.
- Local Holidays - In addition to all U.S. Holidays, Hawaii also observes the following local holidays:
- Kuhio Day, March 26 - honoring Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalaniana'ole, the first representative to Congress
- Lei Day, May 1 - celebrates the special tradition of lei-giving
- Kamehameha Day, June 11 - pays tribute to the warrior king who united the
islands under one rule.
- Admission Day, 3rd Friday in August - marks the day Hawaii was admitted to the union.
