| KauaiThis romantic and tropical island abounds with waterfalls, tropical forests, secluded beaches and majestic mountain skylines. The center of Kauai is formed by the twin peaks of Mt. Wai'ale'ale at 5,148 feet and Mt. Kawaikini at 5,243 feet. From these peaks flow a series of streams, waterfalls, ponds and rivers that spawn breath-taking canyons and valleys filled with unique habitats and wildlife, including species of birds once thought to be extinct. Kauai is home to the well-known Waimea Canyon, that was affectionately termed the "Grand Canyon of the Pacific" by famous author Mark Twain and the Napali Coast with towering sea cliffs. The south shore abounds with almost year-round sunshine. Kauai also has more beach per mile of coastline than any other Hawaiian island and hosts 43 white sand beaches. Visitors can choose from five major resort areas that feature a variety of accommodations from luxury full service resorts to quaint plantation cottages or charming bed and breakfast inns.
