Lanai
Hawaii's most secluded island is only 13 miles wide and 18 miles long, but offers a wealth of vacation experiences. Visitors here will enjoy both sandy beaches, and pine-scented forests. Lanai is fast earning a reputation as a hideaway for the rich and famous. Yet, it is still a destination where anyone can enjoy the wonders of what was once the "pineapple paradise".

Uncrowded, Lanai is an island for those seeking pampered seclusion alive with the promise of discovery. Much of the island terrain is only accessible by four-wheel drive vehicles, boat, horseback or on foot.

For 70 years Lanai, developed by James Dole in the 1920's, served as the world's largest source of pineapple. Now the island has diversified its agriculture and added tourism as a main industry. Throughout the year there is a visiting artists program, where world-renowned artists, authors, chefs, and performers come to the island for programs in intimate settings, complimentary to hotel guests and the community.

Sight-seeing on Lanai should include:

  • The Lodge at Ko'ele
  • Hulopo'e Beach
  • Keahikawelo (lunar rock garden)
  • The Challenge and Experience of Lanai's best "Links"
  • Munro Trail's Five Island View
  • The Lanai Visiting Artist Program
  • Luahiwa Petroglyph Fields

Facts about Lanai:

  • The island measures 141 square miles, making it the smallest of all the islands. It is one of the tri-isles with Maui and Molokai.
  • Lanai has four beaches, but only one is accessible by paved road, and there are only 30 miles of paved roads on the island.
  • Major Island Activities include: golf, hiking, horseback riding, bicycling, off-road treks, Hawaiian entertainment, history and culture, sun-bathing, spas, archery, sporting clays, scuba, snorkeling, and dining.
