Located on the Pacific Coast of Central America, El Salvador is fast
becoming the new "hot" tourist destination, and it provides an enchanting
experience for every traveler. This small country has plenty of attractions,
and offers a complete escape from the other sometimes, crowded tourism sites
of the world.

Beaches & Surfing
With over 200 miles of coastal area and a year-round tropical climate, El
Salvador is the ideal place to enjoy an outdoors vacation. El Salvador has
some of the most beautiful beaches, and there is a perfect beach for
everyone, from surfers, to those who like sun-bathing on quiet secluded
beaches. The sand varies in color from black to gold to white because of the
volcanic activity of the past. The western coast is more developed and
geared for tourism. For those who are a bit more adventurous, and don't mind
simpler accommodations, the eastern beaches have beautiful areas with
deep-sea fishing, mangroves, kayaking, and surfing. This tiny country is
gaining a reputation for having some of the best surfing in the world,
transforming it into the fastest growing surf hot spot in Central America!

But, El Salvador's real attractions lie beyond
its beaches. It is one of the few places in the world where there are still
tropical dry forests in natural habitats. The countryside of El Salvador is
breathtaking, with volcanoes and mountains offering "green" adventurers
exactly what they seek. There are a number of beautiful and secluded,
beaches and forests scattered throughout the country plus a well-maintained
and seldom visited National Park. Montecristo Cloud Forest is a quaint
fishing village with incredible local hospitality and remote coconut
islands, as well as the many archaeological sites that can be visited
throughout El Salvador.
Archaeological sites
El Salvador is an important part of the history of the Mayan world and is
home to some of Central America's most important archaeological sites. El
Salvador has a number of ancient archaeological sites form the Maya
civilization, some dating back to the third century BC! The impressive step
pyramid ruins at Tazumal and San Andres, as well as the ruins at Joya de
Ceron, testify to the once large and sophisticated Mayan civilization.

Volcanoes & Parks
A large part of this country is mountains, with more than 25
extinct volcanoes dotting the territory. Many of them have big craters that
show the flow of petrified lava. There are several scenic routes that wind
their way through the mountains, where temperatures are cooler and visitors
will experience breathtaking landscapes that paint real pictures of cloud
forests, crater lakes, and coffee plantations.

Coffee Plantations
A land of agriculture, the rich volcanic soil on the slopes of over 25
dormant volcanoes attracted the largest farms and through time, the major
population centers in the country established on these slopes. The lowlands
and middle highlands are planted with coffee, which is the main crop,
supplemented by cereal grains, cotton, and sugar cane. El Salvador is also
the world's primary source of balsam which is used for perfumes and
medicine.
A tour to one of the mountain coffee plantations offers visitors an
unforgettable experience, not to mention the unique opportunity to taste
some of the world's best coffee. El Salvador is a fair trade partner in the
world's coffee production.

There is a lot to see in El Salvador and travelers could easily spend
several weeks touring around the country. San Salvador itself has many
museums, monuments, parks and shopping venues, including the unique and
quaint artist towns of Ilobasco, Suchitoto, Ataco and La Palmas. The capital
of San Salvador, is a cosmopolitan city with excellent restaurants
highlighting the country's fresh seafood, as well as plenty of shopping,
entertainment and nightlife.
The short distances between destinations allow visitors to go from the
passivity and beauty of the natural landscape, to volcanoes, to the best
surf waves in Central America; all this without having to drive more than an
hour or two in any direction. This natural advantage enables visitors to
enjoy a wide range of tourist options and accommodation choices, making the
most of their stay.
Aside from a great vacation, what most tourists take away with them is how
warm and hospitable the people are. Salvadorans have a great love for their
country and will go out of their way to make your stay a memorable one!
