5 - 10 DAY SCENIC WONDERS TOUR
(Phoenix to Northern Arizona)

Arrive in Phoenix and explore the hidden treasures in this metropolitan city of the west. Among the activities you can fill your days with we recommend the following:

  • Visit the Heard Museum or Pueblo Grande Museum to learn about the many Native cultures present throughout the state.
  • Make a trip to the Phoenix Zoo and Botanical Gardens to experience our native (and not so native) wildlife, and desert flora and fauna.
  • Tour the Rossen House, a fine example of Victorian architecture, and explore Heritage Square for a step back in time to the early days of Phoenix.
  • Visit the unique art galleries, shops and restaurants located in Old Town Scottsdale.
  • View the Sonoran Desert on horseback, take a jeep or Hummer tour, or perhaps a hot air balloon ride to experience first hand the scenic beauty of the desert landscape.
  • Enjoy numerous championship golf courses in traditional, desert or mixed terrain.
  • Attend a sporting event to see one of our fine Arizona teams in action. Choose from Baseball, Basketball, Football or Hockey, professional or college.
  • Shop in a variety of world class shopping centers and unique boutiques or the many antique stores throughout the city.
After exploring the Phoenix area, head north to the Red Rocks of Sedona and the surrounding Verde Valley where you'll find a number of sites for exploring Indian ruins.
  • In Sedona see the spectacular Red Rock formations from a 4x4 jeep tour.
  • Enjoy a horseback ride in Cocconino National Forest.
  • Take an aerial tour in a helicopter and enjoy the breathtaking views of the red rocks or the Grand Canyon.
  • Take a day trip river rafting on the Colorado River.
  • Visit nearby Jerome - an old mining town now turned artist's colony.
  • Visit the Indian ruins of the Verde Valley including Montezuma's Castle, Montezuma's Well and Tuzigoot National Monument.
  • Take a ride on the Verde Canyon Railroad into the scenic depths of Sycamore Canyon to the ghost town of Perkinsville - "it's not the destination but the journey that counts".

From Sedona, head north to explore the Grand Canyon. You can base in Flagstaff, Williams or at any of the hotels surrounding Grand Canyon National Park.

  • Ride the Grand Canyon Railroad for an unforgettable experience with time to explore at the Canyon. Make it a one day trip or stay overnight at the Canyon.
  • Try horseback riding on the trails around Flagstaff, Williams or the Grand Canyon.
  • Experience an overnight or ˝ day mule ride at the Grand Canyon.
  • Hike the Canyon or go higher to the San Francisco Peaks in Flagstaff.
  • Visit the IMAX Theater just outside the entrance to Grand Canyon National Park.
  • Visit the Riordan Museum in Flagstaff
  • Observe the galaxy from the Lowell Observatory
  • Experience nature with a visit to the arboretum in Flagstaff
  • Enjoy an afternoon of family fun at the Deer Farm just off the freeway between Flagstaff and Williams

After exploring the wonders of the Grand Canyon head to northeast Arizona with a stop in Winslow. From here you can explore part of our Indian Country with trips to the Hopi and Navajo Reservations. Make an easy day trip to:

  • Hopi Mesas
  • Petrified Forest
  • Prehistoric Pueblos
  • Hopi Cultural Center
On your return to Phoenix, drive the scenic back roads and spend a night in Fountain Hills before flying out from the Phoenix airport. In Fountain Hills you'll find a variety of activities worth spending a day or more to explore.
  • Visit nearby Fort McDowell Casino.
  • See big cats, bears and more at Out of Africa Wildlife Park
  • Spend a day at Saguaro Lake, water craft rentals are available
  • Enjoy hiking or mountain biking at McDowell Mountain Regional Park
